We visited what would later be known as, 'The Lakefront Cottage' late last July. We instantly fell for its idyllic forest surrounding and 180 degree of lake view. The property nestles onto a secluded 1/2 acre surrounded by picturesque rock terrain and lake front views.
We've always dreamt of owing a house and leaving the condo world behind. Unfortunately the Vancouver housing boom occurred and owning a detached home in the city became unobtainable. Fast forward a few years later and craving a lifestyle change, we broadened our search to The Okanagan, Sunshine Coast and the Southern Gulf Islands. We knew the house would dictate our fate and the Southern Gulf Islands spoke to us on Pender Island.
We both craved living a retreat lifestyle, a slower pace and calm environment to be creative with our work and a 'get-away' feel on down time.
I've been a city girl my entire life. I love living in a big city with all its convenient advantages like restaurants, spas, beaches, cafe's, theatre, concerts, shopping to name a few. But, as the population of Vancouver increased so did housing prices and crazy traffic. Was once an affordable and calm city was starting to become 'the hurry city'. With these increasing trends, it was time to leave and find tranquility outside of the city.
So we took a leap of faith, sold our loft, adopted a pup (Mabel) and moved into a cottage on a lake.
We now have a healthy balance of both worlds - living on an idyllic island and commuting into Vancouver bi-weekly for work. We have a new found appreciation for the city and what it has to offer. I feel like I am exploring the city more now then I did when I lived there!
