CROCHET VS MACRAME

Homemade is weaving its way into our homes more and more now.  Our homes are taking increasingly crafted looks to the next level and it hasn't look so good! Macramé is more apparent in interior design as crochet is seen more in clothing.
So what is the difference between Crochet & Macramé?  Honestly, at first I didn't know.  So I'll break it down for you guys below.

Crochet is a handicraft in which yarn is made up into a patterned fabric by looping yarn with a hooked needle.  It's also referred to as the "boho textile".

Below all three of American designer Tommy Hilfiger's models are wearing crochet on his Spring 2016 Ready-To-Wear runway. Technically, you could say that the webbing in between the bikini is macramé.  To me crochet appears natural and real in clothing,  it's an honest textile.

Macramé is the art of knotting cord or string in patterns to make decorative articles.  It's a form of textile-making using knotting rather than weaving or knitting.
The images below show various ways in which you can create functional and decorative macramé masterpieces.

These beautifully handcrafted macramé linen key chains below are created by Vancouver fibre artist Galit Mastai.  Check out her shop on Etsy here.

If you live in or are visiting Vancouver, check out Galit's new collection of exquisite macramé wall hangings inspired by the beaches and coastline of British Columbia at Nineteen Ten Home Boutique - Home Decor from now until May 14th.  Meet the maker at Nineteen Ten Home Boutique - Home Decor on Saturday, March 12th from 14:00-16:00 to hear more about her technique or simply to say 'Hi'. You'll be glad you did!
