An Abandoned Church in Little Italy's neighborhood of Chicago saw huge potential from Linc Thelen Design, in collaboration with Sacrafano Architects.
The ceiling of the old church was removed, which at one point housed a penthouse. Now the open spaces expose 8 meter high ceilings. In doing this, a magnificent fireplace becomes the focal point of a luminosity white space. Soaring from floor to ceiling the fireplace houses several open niches for fire wood while adding warmth from its natural state.
Beautiful stained glass windows from the old church again are used as windows, But, at the same time act as art installments throughout.
I like the choice of gold metals, glowing yellow bulbs and natural materials from ceiling beams to wicker baskets and firewood. Together they compliment and enhance the beauty of the stained glass windows throughout this well designed converted church which now is home to a family of five.
