TRAVEL | NYC

Hello!  Happy Weekend!

OK...This is new content to my blog.  It's called 'Day Tripping'.  It's simple.  It consists of a 1-day excursion anywhere around the globe that I have experienced myself and loved.
Today marks the 15 year anniversary of 911 in NYC.  My thoughts are with the friends and families for their lost ones today and always.  Today's blog is a tribute to their loved ones and the great city of NYC.

Last week I was in NYC traveling the city over 6 nights for my wedding anniversary.  I have been 3 times before; But, this time was my favourite trip.  Why?  I think because I planned everyday ahead of time.  I know what your thinking...Doesn't seem very spontaneous.  Each day had the flexibility to swap in case mother nature had other (rain) plans.  It worked like a charm!  Good-bye to the times of planning out your day the night before or during breakfast while on holiday.

NYC...
My favourite day was walking The High Line, eating lunch at Sullivan Street Bakery and cruising on a yacht for an architecture tour all around Manhattan.
The High Line is the retired New York Central Railroad that was repurposed into an urban park in 2006.  It spans 2.33 km throughout Chelsea and has some of the best views of New Jersey and the Manhattan skyline.  Designed by James Corner Field Operations, Diller Sco dio + Renfro, planting designer Piet Oudolf.
"Friends of the High Line raises 98% of the High Line's annual budget." "Owned by the City of New York, the High Line is a public park maintained, operated, and programmed by Friends of the High Line, in partnership with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation"                                                                              www.thehighline.org

10:00am  |  Start (The High Line - 99 Gansevoort Street)
The Meatpacking District, Chelsea is the start of the High Line with the Whitney Museum over your left shoulder as you walk up the stairs to the elevated promenade.  Before you go, check out 'things to do' activities calendar at The High Line here.  Maybe an event is going on you would want to join in on!

11:30am  |  Lunch Time (Sullivan Street Bakery - Chelsea 236 9th Ave)
Exit off the High Line at W 23rd Street and head east on W 23rd, turn left on 9th Avenue until you see the bakery on the east side of the street.  Try their prosciutto panini...yum!
12:45-1:00pm  |  Make your way to Chelsea Pier, Pier 62

1:45pm  |  Cruise Time (Classic Harbor Line - Chelsea Piers, Suite 103)
Get ready to be pampered for 2.75 hours, as a glass of wine, beer or champagne with hor d'oeuvres are included.  This 1920's inspired yacht is gorgeous!  Beautifully polished teak paneling inside with loads of glass windows and skylights.  Step outside during the cruise for photo ops and feel the air breeze through your hair.  Especially during the summer months!

4:30pm  |  Finish High Line
Head east on W 23rd Street until you see the entrance for The High Line.  Walk up the stairs and continue north on the promenade.  When you loop around the Hudson Yards, the Hudson River will be on your left.  This is the end of the line.
Conveniently, the Hudson Yard Subway Station is in walking distance to the east to get you back to your hotel.  This could be an opportunity to freshen up and have a quick change before heading out into the night for some food & drink.  Why not?  Because, this is the city that doesn't sleep!
