With the new Nordstrom Store hours away from opening it’s much anticipated doors to the Vancouver market, I thought I would walk down memory lane...
The orginal building was designed for Eaton’s department store by American architect Caesar Pelli, and opened on February 8, 1973. I remember as a little girl traveling by bus over the Lion’s Gate Bridge from the North Shore to meet my grandmother outside of Eaton’s Department Store where she would be waiting for me at the bus stop and landmark Birk’s clock. Fast forward to 1999 when Eaton’s went out of business and Sears took over, then fast forward again to 2012 when Sears closed it’s doors. Sears had massive sales going on, but, what really excited me was the retail fixtures they were selling. I picked up a mannequin bust for a song which has since been living in my bedroom proudly displaying the few necklaces I own.
